ALL Saints Church in Okehampton marked National Marriage Week by incorporating a ?Celebration of Marriage? in the morning service on Sunday, February 12. Couples were invited to receive a prayer of blessing, either for themselves or for others and to light a candle in thanksgiving for the gift of marriage. The Rev Mark Thomas, curate at All Saints, said while there was a need to affirm those who are single too ? either because they have never married or because they are widowed or divorced ? marriage was an important institution. ?We feel that it is important to recognise the value of Christian marriage and this seems a good opportunity to do so,? he said. National Marriage Week ran from February 7 to 14.
