THE wording for a plaque which represents the old Market House and weighbridge, has been decided on by members of Okehampton Town Council.

The plaque, which is situated by the public toilets in Market Street, used to rest in the wall before it was knocked down as part of the developments when Waitrose was built in Okehampton.

West Devon Borough Cllr Christine Marsh said: 'A lot of people stop to look at the stone and ask what it was for.

'It is really part of our heritage and history, so it is important to say what it was.'

The final wording for the plaque will be: 'The Market House and Weighbridge once stood on this site.' When they were demolished in 2000, the stone was placed as a reminder.
