A WEST Devon company has been commissioned to peddle a new vision for Cornwall?s Camel Trail cycle route. Sticklepath-based Imagemakers Design and Consulting will undertake a marketing and interpretation strategy for the 17-mile long route, along a disused rail track between Padstow and Bodmin Moor. The strategy will make recommendations on enhancing the trail as a high quality, year round attraction, and encouraging users to explore more of the route. At present, most people come during the summer and tend to spend time at the Padstow and Wadebridge end of the trail. The scheme will inform the future management of the trail, including providing interpretation for cyclists, horse riders and walkers, devising a cohesive image and maintaining its high quality reputation. Imagemakers have been commissioned to devise the strategy by the Camel Trail Partnership, which they will develop in consultation with North Cornwall District Council, Cornwall County Council and the Forestry Commission, together with other statutory bodies and local stakeholders. Recent projects undertaken by Imagemakers include interpretation displays for the new Heritage Centre at the Command Training Centre at Lympstone, a generic county-wide review of the role and applicability of technology in interpretation for Scottish Natural Heritage, and designing interactive installations along a new long-distance walk in the Norfolk Broads. The Camel Trail attracts around 350,000 visitors a year. The traffic-free route follows the River Camel and takes in coastal estuary, woodland and moorland.
