AGAIN the council has ?messed up big time? by allowing the new Carlton Cinema to erect a garish sign covering the whole entrance ? (the only entrance) to the Charter Hall. If I were a guest at a function, wedding etc, in a strange town, I would find the Charter Hall by the old name sign on the wall but would be confused as to where the entrance was, I certainly would not expect to enter a municipal building via a cinema entrance. I have no objections to a cinema apart from the fact we have lost our Market Hall ? we have still not been provided with the new market planned by the council ? we are still a market town without a market. I am also wondering if perhaps the cinema owners are planning to also use the actual Charter Hall when the council are no longer able to rent out the hall. The auction is now no longer in the Charter Hall ? the proprietor has been under dreadful pressure since the loss of the market hall ? but we now have a wonderful new permanent auction house at Fatherford in the Old Pow Wow building, and of course the council has lost over £400 per month in revenue from the auction. The new auction site has lots of safe free parking. Home made food etc will be served as usual in our new kitchen/café all day. I hope the Okehampton people will support us as usual.
