A COOL overcast day greeted the competitors in last Sunday?s annual Tavistock Wheelers open 25 mile Sporting Time Trial. The S5/25S course takes the riders from their start at Wringworthy Hill on the A386 out through Mary Tavy, over Blackdown, past Sourton to the turn at Fowley Cross roundabout. The return leg finishes at the Trout and Tipple pub on the edge of Tavistock. A stiff north westerly wind made the outward leg hard going but assisted the riders on their return. Fastest local rider was once again Mark Convin, with 1.10.05 and fellow Tavistock riders Ashley Cackett and Steve Cox both put on good performances. Ashley, riding his first event aged 14, finished in 1.13.25 and Steve, returning to racing after 10 years, had a time of 1.14.36. Overall winner was Martin Legg (Bikechain/Ricci Ltd) with a time of 1.00.06, whilst fastest lady was Jacqueline Rice (Okehampton CC, 1.15.56). First Junior, Pete Vincent, North Devon Wheelers, 1.04.59. Tavistock Wheelers welcome interested riders to join them on their Sunday morning rides, leaving from outside the Police Station at 9am.
