Tavistock B 2 Marjons D 11 TAVISTOCK Men?s Hockey third team played their first home league match of the season on Saturday, against a well organised Marjons of Plymouth ?D? side. Tavistock?s league opponents for their first two matches withdrew from the league which, with no friendly games either, left the local side seriously short of match practice. This showed immediately as Marjons took the lead in the first minute and kept up the pressure to earn a 6-0 advantage at half time. After the break, Tavistock responded well and good goals from Nick Andrews and Josh Cowen reduced the deficit and lifted home spirits. Unfortunately this was as good as it got and Tavistock were reduced to ten men when captain Tony Wood was injured. Keeper Jake Mathews pulled off some good saves but could not prevent the visitors from netting five more goals to give the final 2-11 scoreline. With missing players still to return, and some more matches under their belt, the B team will be looking to improve considerably over the coming weeks. l On Saturday Tavistock B play Okehampton A at Okehampton College.
