A NEW community creative writing magazine is to be launched next week. Free copies of the magazine, ?Margins?, can be picked up at the farmers? market on Bedford Square, Tavistock, on Saturday, June 24 The publication gives a taste of Dartmoor and Devon through stories and poems. The idea for ?Margins? came from a community of writers throughout Tavistock who chose the name to reflect both the rural and urban nature of Devon. The project is being steered by Tavistock resident Ann Pulsford and has been boosted by a grant from Tavistock Town Council. Dr Pulsford said Devon had been a source of inspiration for writers both past and present, so ?Margins? thought it appropriate to select Dartmoor and its surrounding towns and villages as the theme for the first issue of the magazine. ?The idea is to promote the local heritage through fiction and to include stories and pictures in a colour magazine,? said Dr Pulsford. Town mayor Cllr Caroline Keane said the town council ought to encourage writers in Tavistock ? she proposed the council offer Dr Pulsford a grant of £50 and request more details as the project progressed. Members of the council agreed to a £50 grant. For more information contact Joan on 01822 615610 or email Ann on [email protected]">[email protected]
