THE ladies of Okehampton Golf Club have had a busy and successful month. The team playing in the Mail on Sunday competition have had yet another hard fought match.
They played West Cornwall and after the four singles matches the score was two all.
As in a previous round of this competition Marcia Jones had to play on and won the match for Okehampton on the first extra hole. They play away at Churston in July in the sixth round.
To celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, Devon County Ladies' Golf Association is running a medal competition.
The Okehampton winners were: silver, Mo Huggins (69) and bronze, Cherry James (71).
They now play in the final at Tavistock in July.
Eileen Harrison and Mary Keir have qualified in the Australian Spoons foursomes with a score of 31 points and play in the final at St Austell in July.
The weather was kind for the Ladies' Club Championship, a 36-hole medal competition, and there were some good scores and handicap cuts as a result.
Winner of the gross competition was Penny Deakin (167) and runner-up was Dawn Phillott (169). Jenni Hutchinson won the net competition with a brilliant score of 131 for the two rounds; her handicap was cut from 25 to 22! The runner up was Penny Deakin (141).
The 18-hole competition run on the same day was won by Lin Atkinson (65) and runner-up was Kay Mansell (73).
The Ladies' Invitation Day was well attended and the greensomes format provided a fun and relaxed day. Kath Mansell and her guest, Ann Fensom (Bude), proved to be the top pairing with Jenni Hutchinson and Di Stephens (The Hampshire) runners-up.
Third place went to Dawn Phillott and Barbs Porter (Tavistock), Mary Keir and Liz Slee (Launceston) were fourth.
The President's silver team and the Creasey bronze team have both fared well this month. The President's team drew with East Devon 3-3 and the Creasey team beat Torquay and Honiton 5-2.
