A TEAM of soldiers will be descending on Princetown later this month, as they embark on a clean up operation at St Michael's Church.
The ten-strong group from the Devon and Dorset Regiment will be helping with the restoration work at the church and in the graveyard.
Captain Keith Finnamore said: 'We do a lot of training on Dartmoor and we use Princetown quite a bit, so we thought it would be nice to put something back into the community.'
And Captain Finnamore said this visit to the church by the soldiers could be the start of regular working parties.
Simon Taylor of the St Michael's Princetown Project said he was delighted with the offer of help from Captain Finnamore.
Certain areas of the graveyard are impossible to mow because the graves are so close together and it really needed a 'good tidy up', he said.
The army team will be at Princetown on September 27 and 28.
St Michael's Church is now vested in the Churches Conservation Trust which is taking responsibility for its maintenance.
It is in a very poor state of repair and the work schedule for this year is concentrating on the church tower.
The St Michael's Princetown Project has completed a wildlife survey during the summer, listing the various birds, animals and plant species in the churchyard. Results of the survey are expected shortly.
