WEST Devon's home-grown marathon man has completed his 96th marathon and with only four to go, he is set to become the youngest person to complete 100 marathons in the UK.
Tavistock's Adam Holland, 23, recently completed the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham, coming eighth out of several thousand competitors.
He completed the marathon in two hours 49 minutes and 30 seconds, shaving two minutes off his personal best time.
Adam said: 'I wasn't trying to beat my personal best it just kind of happened. My previous best time was two hours 51 minutes and 48 seconds which I got in London last year.'
Having run 26 marathons so far this year, Adam is gearing up to run three back to back on October 1, 2 and 3 before running his 100 marathon at the Eden Project a week later.
Adam said he has been trying to contact Guinness World Records to let them know, but to no avail: 'They are not very easy to get hold of — even the Eden Project has tried but they can't get hold of them either.'
After celebrating his 100th marathon, there will be no rest for Adam as he is planning to run the Dartmoor Vale Marathon a week later, as he has been informed that there will be a spotter there.
He said: 'I'm hoping I might be able to pick up a coach.
'I can go and run marathons but I'm just not very good at the training part.'
Adam also holds a running club for children and adults in the Meadows in Tavistock on Wednesday evenings. The first session is free and for people who want to continue, there is a charge of £2 for 10 sessions. The children's session meets at the green hut at 5pm and the adult session starts at 5.45pm.
Anyone who would like to take part can just turn up on the day, or contact Adam on 07810 441709 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
