MAY I, through the courtesy of your newspaper, thank the many volunteers who assisted in running the Cards for Good Causes shop at the Tavistock United Reformed Church in the run up to Christmas last year.

Over £24,000 was raised for the various charities, which although a little less than in some previous years was way above average in national terms for a town of our size in these recessionary times.

In all, 255 volunteers offered their help, although only 180 of these were actually needed to run the shop.

Most volunteers were from the town itself, but others came from from all over West Devon, East Cornwall and the northern borders of Plymouth.  The same can be said of the public who purchased the cards.

It is always gratifying to note how many people in our surrounds choose Tavistock not only as a shopping centre but as the place to support charitable causes.

Once again, Tavistock and its surrounding areas has proved itself flush with volunteers who are prepared to devote time, money and energy into supporting good causes.  Many, many thanks to everyone involved.
