A CHARITY shop which makes a big difference to the 'valuable' work of Tavistock Area Support Services has been forced to review its opening hours, due to lack of volunteers. For 21 years the volunteers of Tavistock Area Support Services' charity shop have made a 'huge difference' to so many elderly people within Tavistock and the surrounding areas. A core of regular volunteers have turned out in all weathers to open the shop in Barley Market Street, to raise funds for the continued work of TASS, through the sale of donated items. The shop each year helps support the work, keeping minibuses on the road, keeping the outreach centres and the Anchorage Centre open, as well as all the other services provided. Andy Lyle, TASS's general manager, said: 'Volunteers are crucial to the charity in all aspects of the services they deliver, but at present due to numbers who volunteer for the shop, TASS is having to review when it can open, which in turn will have a knock on affect on the valuable work the charity undertakes.'  Andy said TASS was always looking for new volunteers to help make a difference and if anyone could spare a few hours a week, it would make a difference to the hours the shop is opened and in turn to the services local people receive. Anyone who would like to help should contact Andy on 01822 616958.
