AN INWARDLEIGH man was killed following an accident on the Winkleigh to Hatherleigh road at Ingleigh Green on Monday evening.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 7.30pm and involved one vehicle, a white Rover Sherpa van, travelling from Winkleigh towards Hatherleigh, which was in collision with a hedge and overturned. The deceased has been named as Roger Jeffrey, who was 50-years-old.

Mr Jeffrey, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was trapped inside with critical injuries. An ambulance attended the scene and conveyed him to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital at Wonford, but he was pronounced dead at around 10.30pm that night.

Fire appliances from North Tawton and Hatherleigh attended the scene. Following the accident the road had to be closed, and diversions put in place. The road reopened at around 3am.
