TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club began the week with a men?s section Evening League away fixture against a Plymouth Civil Service team on their Plymouth Green. The match ended as a 57-95 victory for the Plymouth team after they won three of the four rinks played. Tavistock?s only winning rink was skipped by Malcolm Bloomer, who led his squad of John Smith, David Perry and Walter Meek to a 18-13 victory. Skip Clive Jago and team of Barry Chappell, Ernie Piper and Geoff Cork went down 17-21, despite winning 12 of the 21 ends played. Skip Norman Paramor and crew of Bill Ashe, Brian Davies and Mike Silcox lost 17-23 after the opposition won the last five ends of their game. Skip Mike Allen and team of Vic Stacey, Mike Felles and Derek Bradford were outmatched by a very strong opposition crew, ending their game having lost 5-36. The ladies section three rink ?friendly? home game against Oreston ended as a convincing 72-44 victory. Skip Hazel Lovell and squad of Viv Powell-Thomas, Pat Hoar and Marion Allen won 28-10, and skip Betty Browse and crew of Marlene Paramor, Jenny Aldridge and Freda Isaac notched up a 29-18 victory. Skip Sue Silcox and team of Yvonne Meneer, Wendy Bloomer and Anne Brown were beaten 15-16. Thursday saw a mixed team from Okehampton travel to Tavistock, only to see the fixture called off at the last moment after heavy rain made the green unplayable. Saturday?s six rink triples home match against Plymouth Sir Francis Drake, saw the visiting club return to Plymouth having secured a 97-88 victory over the Tavistock men?s team. Tavistock skip, Ernie Piper and squad of Ray Meneer and Barry Chappell won 15-13 after winning 10 of the 18 ends played. Skip Norman Paramor and team of Gerald Worth and Gordon Northey lost 13-29 in a game of mixed fortunes which saw them win their first end by five shots and lose the last end of the game by seven shots. Skip John Smith and crew of Wallace Northey and Derek Bradford won the last four ends of their game but finished having lost 11-16. Skip Vic Stacey and team of Albert Townsend and George Blackburn lost 12-18 thanks to them winning only five of the 18 ends played. Skip Walter Meek and squad of Harvey Leach and Geoff Cork won 21-12, thanks to staging a recovery after losing the first five ends played. Skip Ron Cooper and his team of Roger Bawden and Charlie Cummings won 16-11 despite being successful on only eight of the 18 ends played.
