TAVISTOCK will be a centre for music-making of all kinds this week when a special Devon County Council project comes to town. Music Comes 2 Town is a Devon Music Service project that celebrates music-making. All the Devon youth ensembles, including orchestral, jazz and brass, will be in Tavistock to rehearse and perform. Professional musicians will be in town for the day and there will be public workshops offering opportunities for everyone to experience something new. The celebration will be held on December 3 as part of Tavistock?s celebrations of 700 years as a stannary town and 900 years as a market town. In addition, the euphonium and tuba ensemble, Tubalaté, will be working with primary and secondary pupils in the area tomorrow (Friday). They will give a series of workshops at Tavistock College, introducing their instruments and their approach to music. Their programme ranges from Sousa to Strauss and Mancini to Puccini. For over a decade, Tubalaté have been at the forefront of instrumental and repertory development. Their wide range of styles and flexibility of performance has gained them an international reputation for promoting the dynamic development of brass chamber music. Saturday?s events, which are all free of charge, run from 10am to 5pm at Tavistock College and include a lunchtime concert from 12.30pm to 1.30pm; workshops at 10am, 11am, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, and a demonstration by Tubalaté at 10am and 3pm. Head of Devon Music Service Ken Parr said: ?It is a real privilege for us to be asked to join in Tavistock?s historic celebrations. We?re looking forward to engaging the whole community in a day of music ? it should be superb!?
