OVER the past nine months, well over 1,000 people in the Okehampton area have hosted meals of all sorts as part of the ?Making a Meal of It? effort for the new Okehampton Hospital Appeal.
The total reached so far is a magnificent £4,431 and everyone deserves a pat on the back for their efforts, according to organiser Jenny Reynolds.
?It?s a real triumph for everyone involved,? said Jenny. ?I am truly grateful to each and every host and hostess for their generous cheques and cash, often wildly exceeding their commitment, and to their guests for joining in.
?I would particularly like to thank the several, very kind people who found they simply could not fulfill their commitment, did their sums and sent a cheque anyway ? it was great to hear from so many people how much fun had been had too.?
Mrs Reynolds emphasised the total raised ?so far? because every time she thought it must be over, another cheque appeared with an apology for being late!
?It is never too late ? the account is still open so if anyone out there is still planning a meal, go right ahead and I?ll look forward to hearing from them,? she added.
Mrs Reynolds can be found at the Multi Charity Christmas Fair which the New Okehampton Hospital Appeal Committee is hosting on November 30 at the Charter Hall.
Mulled wine and mince pies will be there for the public to enjoy while they choose from a wide range of Christmas presents and cards to help many local good causes.
