MARY TAVY Victory Hall will be getting a makeover with a new roof and other repairs, thanks to a cash boost of several thousand pounds.

The trustees of the Victory Hall in the Memorial Recreation Ground secured a £6,300 grant from Biffa Award — a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK.

The project will include the removal of the roof valley. which is currently collecting debris from nearby trees and causing water ingress into the changing rooms and the construction of a brand new roof.

The funding will also be used to replace an old urinal and seal the floor and walls with protective paint.

Following the completion of the project, the trustees hope that the local amenity will be able to offer better facilities to the community it supports.

George Hill, chairman of the trustees, said: 'It will bring peace of mind to the trustees to know that the changing rooms are dry and safe to use at anytime.'

Volunteer at many village events Shirley Critchley said: 'When the work is completed, we will have adequate facilities for the general public to use, at present they are substandard.'

Biffa Award programme manager Gillian French said: 'As well as making the building more pleasant for current users, the project at Mary Tavy Victory Hall will improve this treasured local facility for the community and we are pleased to support it.'
