IF at Christmas, you receive a knitted sweater from granny which is not quite your style or a DVD from your sister that you already have, don't just put them in the back of a drawer.

Why not take them down to the Tavistock Lions Club 'Share a Gift' stall at the farmers' market in Bedford Square on Saturday January 9? The Lions will try to find them a new and loving home and raise money for charity in the process

You may also be able to pick up a bargain by buying someone else's unwanted gift.

This will be the third time the Lions Club has organised a sale of gifts as it did the same in January 2005 when almost £1,500 was raised for the people of South Asia who had suffered in the Boxing Day tsunami.

Last year they raised £200 for the Anthony Nolan Trust and this year the money will be distributed to local needy charities.

The stall, manned by members of Tavistock Lions Club, will be open from 9am to 2pm and those donating gifts are asked to drop them off at the stall before 10am on the day or anytime before that day at the Times offices in Brook Street or Fairway Furniture in Tavistock — or call Lions Club member Janet Nowell on 01822 612560 if you wish the club to collect an item.
