PUPILS from Mount House School have handed over a cheque for £5145.61 to Tavistock Hospital for the renovation of their Jubilee garden. Funds were raised at a sponsored walk last term which involved more than 300 pupils, parents and staff taking to the moor on a ten-mile route. Youngest to complete the course was 5-year-old Oscar Norris from the pre-prep while Tom Rickard was the pupil with the most number of sponsors. Children from the school have been fully involved in the garden project as part of the service component of the Mount House Shakleton Award scheme. They have been weeding, tidying and digging on a weekly basis. Headmaster Jim Massey said: ?I am very proud of the amount the children have raised.? He said the Shakleton award is a vital part of life at Mount House. It reinforces the importance of encouraging children to have an appreciation of service to the local community. The other strands of the award are safety, adventure and proficiency with an expedition for parents and children due to take to the Costa Rican jungle next year.
