THE Okehampton Town budget in its present format needs to be more transparent, if it is to be meaningful to its readers.

The current format of two columns (last year?s budget projection and next year?s budget projection) should be separated by a column that states the actual income/expenditure for last year.

It would present a clear, simple to understand statement for taxpayers ie (a) the areas of over/under estimations (b) give a positive indication of areas that actually require increases.

Is there any reason why this format cannot be adopted next year?
