A LEADING charity is looking for people to make a real difference to their local community in Tavistock at a special event on Thursday, November 2. Make a Difference Day, organised by the Community Service Volunteers on Saturday, is the UK?s largest day of volunteering, when more than 115,000 people will do something amazing as part of the Make A Difference fortnight. In Tavistock, the Volunteer Centre and BTCV will be offering volunteers the opportunity of getting involved in a conservation and craft day to improve the local nature reserve at Tavistock Viaduct. Throughout the day activities, including willow coppicing, pond clearance, hurdle making, willow weaving, habitat creation and seed collection, will be taking place with guidance and instruction from trained leaders. Volunteers are welcome to come and give their time and involve themselves in the activities from 10.30am to 3.30pm on November 2. The activities will take place along the Tavistock Viaduct Walk between Crease Lane and the viaduct itself. Volunteers need to arm themselves with some old clothes, a packed lunch and, if they have them, some work gloves. The organisers will provide everything else. Jacqui Waldron, an Outreach Volunteer co-ordinator, working at Tavistock Volunteer Centre in King?s Street, said: ?Volunteering is a fantastic experience ? a great way to give something back to your community, have fun, get skilled and meet new people. ?So why not give it a go? It is a great opportunity for people to give volunteering a try and do something positive for their local environment.?
