A NIGHT of fantastic entertainment featuring an exclusive line-up of London's newest talent is being staged in Tavistock this spring.

Maystock 2010 will take place in Tavistock Town Hall on May 8 — and organiser Charley Base is promising 'a night not to be missed'.

Charley, 24, a former Tavistock College student who is now based in London, has drawn together some exciting new talents, established comedy artists and also local acts for the event.

Charley said: 'I currently work in the comedy department at Talkback Thames — our main shows being Buzzcocks, QI and Celebrity Juice — but we are constantly developing new shows and looking for the comedy stars of the future.

'Due to my close proximity with such inspiring talent, I wanted to use the contacts I have made since living in London to bring home an event for Tavistock, where people don't usually get the opportunity to see many new acts.

'I'm really happy with the line-up I've managed to get together. One of my biggest passions is discovering new talent — I was scouting new comedians even before I got myself a job doing so!'

Charley has judged the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competition for the last three years, which is where she came across two of the acts booked for Maystock — Imran Yusuf and Henry Paker, who will be the compere for Maystock.

Charley said: 'Henry and Imran are both brilliant and are sure to go on to bigger and better things.'

Henry Paker started stand-up in January 2006, and in 2008, he won the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year title. He has written jokes for many TV shows, including Mock The Week and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Imran Yusuf is renowned for his stinging, lyrical street-slang verbiage and super-high energy performance that triggers belly-aching laughter.

Smales and Payne are a new act on London's comedy circuit, but already they have written and performed a sketch with Stephen Fry which can be seen on YouTube.

Doc Brown is a rapper who turned to stand-up in 2007, and was a finalist in the new act competition the following year. He was placed third in the English Comedian Of The Year competition 2009.

Jo Harris is a 23-year-old Westcountry singer/songwriter. She has been playing guitar for more than five years and enjoys doing her own unique cover versions of songs, as well as having a few catchy tunes of her own under her belt. She will be performing an acoustic set at Maystock.

The La De Dahs re-arrange well loved modern day songs into a 1940s style. They are an a capella, comedic, all-singing girl group who make all of the music with their voices, blended together perfectly with beautiful harmonies.

Stages Of Dan are a London based power trio made up of Chris Aliano, Chris 'Big Chris' Bryant, and Chris Guy Davidson. They play rock and roll music inspired by people named Chris.

Ewen Macintosh is an English actor, best known for the role of Keith the accountant in The Office. He has also appeared in Little Britain, Lead Balloon and the Channel 4 series California Dreaming.

Ewen made a cameo appearance in the video for Girls Aloud and Sugababes' cover of 'Walk This Way' and is a regular DJ on London's club circuit.

Maystock starts at 7.30pm — doors open at 7pm. Tickets, at £18, are available from Paypal — email the amount of tickets required to [email protected]">[email protected] with name and full address including postcode.
