FANS of West Devon band Equation will have a chance to see them play live when the band stages a last-minute Christmas gig in Tavistock on Wednesday December 22.
The Kings Centre in Pixon Lane will be the venue for the last gig the band will play in the country before their six-week coast-to-coast tour of America in the new year.
And 20 lucky students at Tavistock College will get the chance to see the gig free.
In a Christmas gesture, Equation, which includes brothers Sean and Seth Lakeman, both ex-students of the college, are giving away tickets to the first 20 students to turn up at Red Planet Records — but they must be able to provide some evidence that they attend Tavistock College.
'I want to assure everyone that this will be a well run event' said manager Joy Lakeman. 'We are very used to organising gigs like this and are confident that everything will go smoothly.'
Equation, who recently released their new album 'The Lucky Few' on the Blackburst label owned by Geoff Travis — Rough Trade, manager of Pulp, Beth Orton and Catatonia — are getting rave reviews in the national and music press and this gig will give fans a chance to hear it played live.
'We couldn't go off to America for such a long tour without playing in our home town first' said guitarist Sean Lakeman. 'We have such great support here and spend a lot of our time in America singing the praises of Tavistock and Dartmoor.'
The band released their debut album 'Hazy Daze' in September in the US and spent three weeks there promoting it, winning over new fans like the legendary Wilson Picket on the way..
This time their tour will see them play prestigious venues like the Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Centre, Washington DC.
But closer to home, tickets to see Equation at Kings are on sale at £5 from Mainly Music, Red Planet Records, Mansbridge and Balment and BJ Videos, or phone 01822 852274.
'Although there will be some tickets on sale at the door, I'd advise people to buy in advance' said Joy.
'Their gigs in Tavistock have always sold out in the past and we don't want anyone to be disappointed!'
