THERE may be scaffolding over the roof of Castle Drogo but that will not stop Father Christmas making visits to the property this December.
On the weekends of December 12 and 13, and 19 and 20, families can follow the trail around the garden and grounds to find Father Christmas in his grotto and children can receive a special present for just £2.
There will also be a three-course Christmas lunch special on Tuesday December 15, Wednesday December 16 and Thursday December 17. Booking is essential on 01647 434143.
Each weekend until December 20 there will be special behind-the-scenes guided tours; and after a tour, visitors may be tempted by a walk down into the Teign Gorge. Winter is the perfect time to admire the expansive views from the castle down into the gorge as well as the architecture of the garden. There are miles of pathways to explore and breath taking views across Dartmoor.
‘The winter period is an exciting time for Castle Drogo,’ said Bryher Mason, house and collections manager. ‘It is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the work that goes into conserving our collection and our plans for next season.’
