Devon seconds A

THIS win sees Tavistock seconds promoted to the premiership of the Devon League by winning their final game of the season against Plymstock.

Plymstock won the toss and chose to bat on a day that threatened rain. Fine early bowling by James McGahey and Mark Webber had the home side struggling at 24-3. A 66 run partnership between Williams (36) and Birleson (32) took the score to 90 after 32 overs. Jamie Stephens then found his length and took six wickets in seven overs with his offspin finishing with 6-43 off 13 overs.

With only two overs left James McGahey (4-17) was brought back on and his second ball cleaned up the innings.  With rain threatening Tavistock got off to a poor start losing both openers for only 15.

Mark Webber (53) and skipper John McGahey then shared a stand of 89 before the tiring Webber was caught at mid on.

Two more quick wickets fell before McGahey scored the final runs required to give Tavistock the win and ensure promotion.
