WITH a total of 13 medals and 23 personal best times it was worth the early start to get to Frome's Open Meet on Sunday for some members of Tavistock Swimming Club.

Held at Millfield School's 50m pool, Tavistock competed against 43 other clubs from throughout the South West and Wales. Head coach Paul Chinn, who travelled with the swimmers, was pleased to see all Tavistock competitors in the 200m individual medley gaining a personal best time.

The first event saw Caroline Tuck swim a ten-second pb in the 200m Freestyle, followed by Ross Williams who sliced 16 seconds off his previous 200m individual medley time.

Club captain Richard Freedman had his best swim in the 16 years 100m backstroke to take the bronze medal.

Joshua Hughes, swimming in a 50m pool for the first time, took ten seconds off his 200m IM to take fifth medal in his age group. Chris Ralph's best swim was in the 14/15 years 100m breaststroke, taking fourth medal and the best swim for James Lake was in the 17/over 100m butterly in a one second pb to take fourth medal.

Jake Chinn had an excellent swim in the 100m freestyle, taking ten seconds off his previous time.

The 100m breaststroke gave Sophie McGowan fourth place medal in her age group and Alison Kelly took seventh place medal in the 17/over with a personal best time in the 100m backstroke.
