A MAD effort was rewarded when a new history trail board was unveiled last Saturday.

MAD — otherwise known as Milton Abbot Discoverers — received a £1,300 grant from Millennium Awards for All to design, make and erect the board in the village as a celebration of the millennium.

The notice board complements the MAD village history trail leaflet and is placed directly on the route of the Tamar trail in an aim to encourage and inform walkers and tourists alike.

Many members of the group supplied historical information, which was co-ordinated by Doris Potter, with maps and drawings by Penny Haigh and Anne Spurr.

Creative oversight was provided by chairman Chris Burchell.

Printing and laminating was done by Whitmore Screenprint Ltd of Tavistock and the iroko frame provided by Oasis Fibreglass Ltd of Holsworthy.

Other ventures undertaken by members of MAD have included recording a tape archive of eighteen hours of reminiscences by villagers and assisting with local archaeological studies.

Photographer Graham Leech has recently compiled a photographic archive of every house in the village, complete with residents, at the time of the millennium.

Definitive field maps and parish boundary records have also been compiled during the project.
