THE future of English cricket appears to be healthy in the hands of West Devon's youngsters.
Eight teams from primary schools all over West Devon met last Friday at Mary Tavy School to do battle for a splendid silver trophy.
The annual Small Schools 'Kwik Cricket' competition featured mixed teams of six cricketers from Gulworthy, Lamerton, Lydford, the home side of Mary Tavy and Brentor, Milton Abbot, Meavy, Princetown and Walkhampton.
The teams were divided into two groups, with the winners — Lydford and Lamerton — meeting in the final.
Lydford came out as this year's champions, in front of a large crowd, taking home the silver cricket bat.
