MUCH to the relief of all concerned, the day dawned warm and sunny for the third annual Tavistock and District 20/20 Championship Trophy on Sunday and held at the Ring in Tavistock. The event, sponsored by Kaminski Property Rentals, drew a large crowd to watch six local teams compete for the championship title, with the Ordulph Arms losing to Lifton in the opening match. In the second game Lydford defeated a spirited Okehampton Mark Park Larkers team, while the third game saw Ordulph return to winning ways, beating Calstock. Okehampton MPL recorded their first victory in the competition by defeating Milton Abbot, while Lifton secured their place in the final by beating Calstock. The last of the group games was won by Lydford who defeated a young Milton Abbot side, resulting in a final between Lydford and Lifton. Lifton batted first but struggled against Lydford's tight bowling and were restricted to 77 in their 15 overs. Lydford paced their reply steadily and with Credicott's not out 37, earning him the man of the match award, he saw his side to a nine wicket victory. Andy Jarman, Tavistock Cricket Club's chairman, expressed thanks to all participating and thanked the huge band of volunteers without whom the day would not have been possible. The Premiership round of this exciting competition is set to take place on Sunday, July 13, when Lydford will return to compete against five more local teams.
