A 'WASTE-free Local Lunch' was held at West Devon Borough Council's Kilworthy Park offices recently, as part of World Environment Day celebrations in the Kilworthy Park grounds recently.

The lunch linked into a meeting of senior councillors and officers from both South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils, to begin the detailed planning for bringing the two councils' waste, recycling and street enforcement services together under their shared services programme.

The two councils' successful 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle' initiatives were highlighted during the lunch, including imaginative ways to use up leftovers and tips for reducing lunch-time food packaging.

Those taking part took the opportunity to buy homemade cakes, with the proceeds going to the mayor's chosen charities for this year, Devon Air Ambulance and Hospiscare. Staff stayed behind after work to help with conservation work on the Tavistock Viaduct Nature Reserve, led by Tavi Taskforce. Other activities, including ATS tyre pressure checks, a swop shop and plant sale.
