A FANTASTIC time was enjoyed by 72 people who sat down for lunch on Christmas Day at Tavistock United Reformed Church.
This was the 10th time the event was held for people who find themselves on their own for one reason or another on Christmas Day. Thanks were expressed to the 24 volunteers and chef Dan Scott who made sure everyone was comfortable and well fed.
Rev Roger Cornish said: ‘I retired as minister of the church in November 2015 and because of family commitments was unable to be present on Christmas Day and oversee proceedings. However, Andrew and Beverley Bickley stepped into the breach and everything went smoothly without me.
‘The whole cost of the lunch was covered by donations received which included cheques from Tavistock Lions Club, Tavistock Abbeyfield Society and The Black Sheep Walking Group and stationery gifts from Andrew Dolan.’
‘It was wonderful to be able to serve Tavistock in this way for the tenth year running. It is a community event supported by people from many backgrounds.’
