DUCHY College Stoke Climsland will be holding the first information morning of the year on Saturday, January 12, between 10am and noon at its campus.

The event will give potential students of all ages the opportunity to take a tour of the facilities, meet staff and current students and find out more about the college's specialist courses.

Duchy College offers full and part-time courses in agriculture, animal management, business, countryside, gamekeeping, horticulture, land-based engineering and construction plant, early year and playwork, forest school, equine, food manufacturing, outdoor pursuits, public services, sport and skills for life.

Natalie Pidgeon from Tavistock studied gamekeeping.

Natalie said: 'My dad's a gamekeeper and the gamekeeping and wildlife management diploma involved everything he was doing so I can help him whilst learning.

'At college we rear all kinds of game and take part in activities like welding and tractor driving.

'Everyone gets involved, you share your experiences and I've learnt a lot.'

Samantha Sleep from Tavistock studied the agriculture extended diploma at Stoke Climsland.

She added: 'I'd heard loads of good things about Duchy College and that the course was really good.

'I want to have my own farm so I want to learn as much as I can.

'As well as learning in the classroom we work on the tractors, or with the calves and sheep; we do all sorts.'

Duchy College head Andrew Counsell said: 'The new year is a perfect time to think about returning to education or future career options.

'At Duchy College we pride ourselves on providing an excellent range of specialist courses that give our learners the best footing to pursue further study, get on the career ladder or improve their employment prospects.'
