THE new Pleasurelands Exhibition at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre at Lifton was officially launched last Wednesday. The exhibition was opened by Vanessa Toulmin, research director at the National Fairground Archive at The University of Sheffield. Pleasurelands has been exhibited at Sheffield, Edinburgh and Croydon to critical acclaim and traces the development of the travelling fair over the past two hundred years. It features reconstructions of show booths and many fairground artefacts such as carved animals, along with vintage footage of fairground rides and shows. Many historic posters are displayed in the newly refurbished Café. Dingles has doubled its display space to more than 45,000 square feet since the opening of the new fairground gallery last autumn. The new space is home to four vintage rides, including a Noah's Ark and Dodgem. These attractions will be open to ride on the Spring Fairground weekend, this Saturday and Sunday. The Pleasureland Exhibition will run until October 29th. Dingles is open every day, apart from Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
