A SPECIAL Christmas charity fair is to be held in Okehampton this weekend, thanks to the organisation which has donated thousands of pounds to local groups since it was created four years ago.

The EX20 Lottery has now seen more than £50,000 being distributed to charities in the area ? as well as providing participants with a regular chance of a windfall cash prize.

This Saturday, the Lottery is holding a Christmas Fair in the Market Hall in Okehampton, at which dozens of bargains provided by many local charities will be on offer.

Christine Marsh, EX20 Lottery promoter, said: ?It?s really the start of the Christmas season now, so this is a chance for everyone to support their favourite charity ? and make a start on their Christmas shopping at the same time.?

There will be stalls by Hospiscare, Okehampton and District Lions Club, Rapid UK, Cancer Research, Friends of Okehampton Hospital, Farms for City Children and the Guide Dogs for the Blind ? plus many more.

Get Changed Theatre Group will be doing face painting and hair braiding and there will be a chance to see Father Christmas, who arrives at the fair at midday.

Mrs Marsh said so far, the EX20 Lottery had been able to help a huge variety of local organisations, around 40 altogether, including the scouts, guides, Devon Air Ambulance and groups supporting the elderly and disabled.

?Now we are looking to help in other ways, like setting up facilities for groups to make money for their own charities,? said Mrs Marsh.

The Christmas Fair in Okehampton Market Hall starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm ? admission is free.
