Tavistock Men 3
Plymouth Marjons B 1
TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team entered this last league game before the Christmas break needing to break the losing streak of the previous two games.
Both squads started with fast open hockey, which led to early scoring chances by both sides.
Good networking between the Tavistock forward pairs of Barrett/Lovett and Bellard/Honey repeatedly broke through the Marjons defence, culminating in a powerfully struck shot from John Barrett for Tavistock?s first goal.
The second half saw Marjons launch furious attacks using individual skills, but these were contained by Rod Kirby, who had a valiant game in midfield, and excellent tackling from the defensive trio of Cowan/Leithbridge/Costello.
Ollie Cowan excelled on the left with repeated runs through midfield and into Marjons? 25-yard area. It built up to a pass from Lovett which set up Bellard to slap home behind the keeper.
Marjons scored their only goal when a deft through-ball allowed their forward to get behind the Tavistock defence and a one-on-one with keeper Neil Bradley who had little chance.
Tavistock raised their work-rate and were rewarded with the final goal from Lovett who picked up a 40-yard pass from Nick Aveyard and slotted it under the keeper.
Man of the match: Ollie Cowan.
This week, friendly against Dawlish.
