Devon seconds D West

Chagford seconds v

Lewdown seconds

THIS was an attractive and sporting game of cricket between the second elevens of these two local sides.

Batting first Lewdown were two wickets down for just 8 runs.  However contributions from the Williams brothers of 34 and 24 and a flourish at the end with Squire 22 and S Butler in a sparkling 30 enabled Lewdown to reach 168 all out in the last over.

Pick of the Chagford bowlers were Endacott 2-36, Letheren 2-20  and Whittingham 2-9.

Chagford's reply was dominated by Stuart Lord, in an opening stand of 96 with Holland. Lord, in a fine attacking display, played shots all round the wicket to reach 64 in quick time.  The introduction of South African Marais into the Lewdown attack, paid divdends as first he dismissed Lord then Holland for 29.

As wickets tumbled at the other end Ridgers continued serenely on his way before he became another Maruis victim for 39 and it was left to Jules Baker to see Chagford home with a four wicket victory in an enthralling game of cricket. Marius in a fine spell of 12 overs took all the Chagford wickets to fall with 6-51.

Chagford 20 points Lewdown 6.
