WORK to improve 26 homes in the Chagford area is underway — with an average of £10,000 being spent on each.
The programme of improvements is being spearheaded by West Devon Homes and involves a variety of works including the installation of gas central heating systems, new fitted kitchens, electrical rewiring, external repairs and redecoration.
Tenants of Meldon Road, Nattadon Road and Orchard Meadow were invited by West Devon Homes to attend a local 'road-show' where they were given the opportunity to discuss the improvement works with staff, the consultants, contractors and suppliers involved.
The tenants were also given the opportunity to choose from a range of kitchens, worktops and floor coverings for their homes.
Amanda Duke, maintenance officer at West Devon Homes, said: 'We are delighted with the turn out at our road-show. Almost all the tenants arrived to discuss the improvements to their homes.
'This was a real opportunity for tenants to become involved and to have a say in how their homes will look when the work is completed.'
Mrs Phyllis Tapper, a resident at Orchard Meadow, said: ' I am really looking forward to seeing the work begin on my home.'
The improvements programme is due to begin in August with the aim to complete in time for Christmas.
