CHILDREN at Meavy Primary School have been busy in the school grounds this summer, growing potatoes as part of a competition organised by the British Potato Council.
Focus DIY in Tavistock kindly donated 16 buckets to the school enough for one per child — the school's parent teacher association donated the compost and school caretaker Mr Merriott provided extra potatoes.
The children have now harvested and weighed their crop from the two varieties of potato planted.
Teacher Penny Price-Lewis said: 'The children have loved watching the potato plants growing.
'They also planted sunflowers and runner beans this term.'
