THE Robey Trust in Tavistock, will be opening the doors of its New Perseverance Ironworks to the public for the first time in almost two years.
The opening will be part of English Heritage's national 'Heritage Open Days' event on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the work of the trust and to see the progress being made in the acquisition, restoration and conservation of the largest single collection of Robey-manufactured engines and artefacts in the world.
Robeys were a well known and respected British engineering company whose factory was situated in Lincoln.
There will be a variety of attractions at the event, including:
l full size engines in steam outside the works
l working demonstrations of various stationary engines within the works
l a chance to see restoration work being undertaken on the engines
l slide shows, refreshments and sales stands.
There will also be trailer rides around the town behind one of the engines in return for a minimum donation to the Robey Trust.
The event will take place at The Robey Trust, New Perseverance Ironworks, Parade Business Park, Pixon Lane, Tavistock, between 10.30am and 5pm on both days.
