A FEW weeks ago I, along with many other parish councillors, went to a meeting to hear how West Devon Borough Council was so short of money that many public toilets in surrounding villages would have to close and some, as in Lydford and Princetown, would only be open for part of the year.

At this meeting no mention was made by the representatives of WDBC of the £200,000 to be spent on new toilets for Tavistock.

I ask just what sort of toilets are going to be built ? gold plated? To put it into perspective a large modern village hall with public toilets can be built for this sum.

Many thousands of pounds have been spent on the ?granite way? cycle track which is used by many all year round.

The only toilets between Okehampton and Tavistock are in Lydford which are now going to be shut for part of the year.

Where are people meant to go to the toilet?

Is Dartmoor National park in its advertising campaigns going to let people know that when they visit to bring their own toilet facilities?

It is a pity the true facts did not materialise at the meeting.
