THE dedication and commitment of civilian instructor Barrass Laing has been recognised by the award of a Commandant?s Commendation for Meritorious Service.

Barrass, from Bere Alston, has been the shooting instructor at 2312 (Tavistock) Squadron Air Cadets for 23 years. During this time the squadron has won many competitions and individual cadets have gained Corps Blues.

The award was made to Barrass by the CO of Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Air Training Corps, Wing Commander Mike Symonds at a special parade at Crelake Barracks recently.

Squadron CO John Olver said: ?Barrass has been a stalwart member of staff, helping with camps, flying and gliding in addition to his shooting role. He richly deserves this commendation.?

Mike also took advantage of his visit to Tavistock to present First Aid at Work Certificates to adult Sergeant Gemma Weeks and Civilian Instructor Alison Smith.
