THREE of the letters (March 14) unintentionally exposed the feeling of helplessness experienced by many Tavistock residents.

Cllr Sellis expressed her concern about the rail-homes development and Jam Gibson plans to vote against councillors 'doing the wrong thing'.

Why bother? If every one of our Tavistock and Bere Peninsula councillors voted against any particular plan or development, they can be easily outvoted by over 15 councillors representing districts such as Okehampton, Hatherleigh, Chagford, etc.

Bob Jones would like the ludicrous Grenofen Gateway removed. I haven't even begun to count the number of county councillors as far away as Barnstaple and Tiverton involved, so what chance have we to decide our own affairs?

When ministers talk of localism, they have no idea of life outside the cities.
