A NATIONAL day of action to protest against plans for war on Iraq will be supported in Tavistock next Thursday, October 31. Tavistock Peace Action Group will be in Bedford Square from 11am to 1pm and hope as many people as possible will join the gathering and sign a petition to be sent to Tony Blair.

The day of action has been called by the Stop the War coalition, an alliance of groups and individuals across the country, who are opposed to war against Iraq.

At least 100 activities have been planned nationally, including a mass rally in London.

Further information can be found on the coalition?s website ?http://www.stopwar.org.uk">www.stopwar.org.uk and at Thursday?s action day in Bedford Square.

Ginny Davies, a member of the Tavistock group said: ?The march in London on September 28 showed the huge strength of feeling against US and UK proposals to attack Iraq.

?Iraqi civilians have already suffered appalling hardships from 12 years of economic sanctions. They have been killed and injured by repeated bombings since the end of the last Gulf War,? she said.

?To wage another war on them is unthinkable. We hope that all local people, who feel as we do, will join our protest.?
