A TEMPTING array of delicious home-produced goods will be on display at Tavistock Country Market's first ever food fair, being held in the town centre later this month.
From tasty tarts to scrumptious savouries, and much more besides, there will be the opportunity to try something different, in the knowledge the produce is genuinely home-crafted and not mass produced.
Tavistock Country Market, which has a regular stall in Tavistock Pannier Market, is a co-operative of about 20-odd, the local branch of a national association.
Sally Jenkin of Tavistock Country Market said: 'Our little food fair will include local and small producers like ourselves.
'We are all home cooks, we make cakes, sponges, jams, savouries, some of us grow plants, some produce vegetables.
'We will also have Dartmoor meat suppliers, cheese makers, traditional puddings, home-made lemonade.
'We hope to have some sort of food bar available for lunches, and we are going to do an interactive event for the children, decorating buns — and eating them!
'It's the first time we've ever organised something like this, which we are doing in conjunction with the pannier market.'
Sally said she hoped the food fair would help raise the profile of Tavistock Country Market — and even attract a few more members.
'We do as much or as little producing as we want — but we are always on the look-out for new people, specially if the produce is a little bit different,' said Sally.
The Tavistock Country Market Food Fair will be held on Saturday, August 18 and will be staged on Bedford Square, using the pannier market's distinctive blue and white marquees and market barrows.
