Okehampton U16s 12
Tavistock U16s 0
TAVISTOCK failed to register a score for only the second time this season in this hard fought game where space was at a premium due to the narrow pitch.
Tavistock started brightly and returned the kick off into the home side 22 with Phil Snell making a good run. A turnover enabled the home side to gain possession and a break down the wing saw Ollie Scantlebury touchdown for a fine try. A break by Mark Friend saw him bundled out in the 22 and further good runs by Snell, Elliot Northmore and Tom Thursby saw them gain ground with Okehampton backs Searle, Hignett and Taylor tackling well.
The second half saw uncontested scrums due to injury and clever kicks by Josh Stephens and Niall Murphy saw Tavistock make ground into Okehampton territory.
The home side were making good breaks and only desperate defence by Tavistock stopped them scoring. Their second try came after they were held up five metres out but recycled the ball which was fed across the backs for a try in the corner by Simon Fellows, Will Searle converting.
Tavistock hit back and a rush of penalties five metres out saw both Friend and Joe Hair go over but the referee deemed them held up.
A fumbled high ball into Tavistock territory saw Okehampton break away but a tremendous saving tackle in the corner prevented a try. This was a fine game in which Okehampton's front row of Pyle, Kearley and Andy Evans were outstanding.
