Bere Alston 2 Mary Tavy 2 THIS much awaited fixture concluded with both teams sharing the points for the second time this season, which underlines the closeness between the two Devon sides topping the Cornish Duchy League Division One. Either team could have won the encounter with both leading at different stages of the game. Bere paraded their two new signings who without doubt looked to add a little extra to the home side, and dividends payed off when a punched clearance from Tony Rawlings was followed up by Darren Small. Mark Piper on the line for Tavy looked to have it covered but a slight deflection was enough to carry the ball over him and into the Tavy net. Scott Dent and Paul De Roche had chances of their own to level but the best effort of the half fell to Paul Glidden who saw his strike superbly turned over by the fired up Bere keeper. Craig Groombridge turned the game early in the second half weaving his magic through the Bere defence before being cruelly chopped down to earn Tavy a penalty kick. Ben Stephens drew the game level squeezing the ball past the keeper who made a valiant effort to keep it out. Tavy were on the up now and after Bere had one disallowed for an offside decision Stephens gave Tavy the lead. For a period of time this looked to be the final outcome but Bere struck back forcing an unfortunate own goal from an attempted clearance for 2-2. Neither side was up for a draw and continued to seek the elusive winning goal but this was never to arise and probably on the day rightly so.
