WHEN Chagford Arts Festival's opening night of entertainment attracted in excess of 400 people, organisers knew it was going to be a success and crowds continued to flock to the four days of fun.

From exhibitions to a space age picnic for the kids and live music and theatre, all events were well attended and there was a great atmosphere in the town, said festival co-ordinator Kate Wilson.

'We had a lot of visitors — it was really nice that people on holiday decided to come and join us and it gave them a good impression of the town,' she said.

'Things have been really quiet because of foot and mouth disease so it was good to see the town lively again.'
