ALMOST £5,000 was recently distributed by the Lions Club of Tavistock recently, to organisations, clubs and schools that participated in this summer's carnival week and to those which won prizes for their procession entries.

The Market Inn received a cheque for £350 for winning best in procession and first in humorous and Tavistock Primary School won £140 for winning best in theme and for coming second in walking class 2.

Lion president Richard Hamer thanked everybody who had helped make this year's carnival so successful and said he looked forward to seeing everybody again next year, when carnival week will start on Saturday, July 9, culminating with the procession on the following Saturday, the theme for which will be 'Heroes and Villains'.
