A NEW Leos Club is to be launched in Tavistock ? and enthusiastic young people keen to help out in the community are being invited to become members.

The new club, part of Lions Clubs International of which the Lions Club of Tavistock is also a member, is for those of 16 years and over.

An open evening is being held on Tuesday, March 30 at 7.30pm in the Upper Hall at Tavistock Methodist Church.

Those interested in joining will have the opportunity to meet members of the recently formed Torpoint Leos Club to find out more about the organisation from Leo district officer Dave Rosson.

Members of Tavistock Lions will also be on hand to advise on their own main fundraising events such as the carnival and West Country Balloon Fiesta with which the Leos may wish to assist.

There was a very active Leos Club in Tavistock in the early eighties.

?We had tremendous fun organising events such as a medieval banquet in the town hall and ?It?s Knockout? for Carnival Week,? said businesswoman Lisa Hair, who was a founder member along with her husband Chris.

?But on a serious side we did enjoy helping out with practical work in the local community.

?Hopefully we will be able to attend the open meeting when we can tell prospective members of our experiences and what we achieved from our time within the club.?

In addition to the proposed Leo Club, Anne-Marie and Steve Lethbridge, both members of Tavistock Lions, have started their own new club with the recent birth of a baby son named Aeden.

All members of the Tavistock Lions Club sent their congratulations to the proud parents.
