SUMMER will be welcomed in style this month with an exciting line-up at the annual Calstock Festival.
This 15th festival lasts a whole week and is an extravaganza of family fun with good food, live music and entertainment by the bucketload.
Festival opening night on Friday May 28 will set the theme for the week with a set from popular acoustic duo ?Show of Hands?.
Described as ?Crowded House without the drums? by the Independent on Sunday ?Show of Hands? were voted Best Live Act 2004 at the BBC Folk Awards earlier this year and are a spectacle not to be missed.
Festival Day on Saturday 29 May will have plenty for everyone to enjoy with an open air market, cafés and bars, a bouncy castle, face painting and a guest appearance by Radio Two?s ?Whispering? Bob Harris.
The banks of the Tamar will be beset by jugglers, dancers and unicyclists ? not to mention a host of rock, pop and folk bands who are all providing free entertainment.
Centre stage on Calstock playing field will be occupied by a climbing tower ? ?the largest mobile outdoor wall in the UK? ? for those who like a challenge the wall is more than 20ft high and not for the faint hearted!
The fun will continue into the evening with a gig performed by frontline folk group ?Seize the Day? and an audience with Bob Harris where he will be accompanied by accomplished vocalist Judie Tzuke.
Events for the next week include a Jazz Café for those who fancy a mellower sound, a classical concert from the renowned ?Kit Family? and a chance to get up and move your feet at Calstock?s special Flamenco night.
Throughout the week there will also be an exhibition of paintings in Calstock Village Hall featuring artists from in and around the Tamar Valley.
This complements the week?s full programme of childrens?, family and adult workshops and a range of other activities including a quiz night, cream tea in the marquee and live music from local pubs.
The grand festival finale will take place on Friday June 4 with a set from funky dance group ?Baby Head? that promises to see the week out with a bang ? and leave everyone looking forward to next year.
